This month Kudos Corner recognizes Bill Anneken

Kudos Corner is a means of acknowledging those in our parish who share their time, talent and treasure to spread the Good News of God's unconditional love. It is intended to lift up and celebrate the actions of individuals and groups within our faith community who touch hearts and make a difference.

This month’s Kudos Corner recognizes Bill Anneken.

You may have heard of the saying, “To sing is to pray twice.” Well…one of our parishioners certainly has multiplied his prayers many, MANY times! Bill Anneken is celebrating his 50th year in the Visitation Choir. Yes…you read right: 50 years! To say that Bill is dedicated to the singing ministry is quite the understatement.

Bill joined Visi’s choir in 1967 after joining the parish two years before. Due to young children, it was impossible to join the choir right away. But his “calling” could not be silenced…so to speak. As he recalls, it was at Thanksgiving Mass in 1967 when, after belting out his favorite song, Battle Hymn of the Republic, as a member of the somewhat small congregation at that time, several fellow congregants came up to him and said, “You ought to be in the choir!” And so he followed their prompts…as well as his heart’s desire…and joined. Now, 50 years later, many are giving thanks for the wonderful singing he has added to our Masses ever since.

As a matter of fact, Bill has been singing in choirs since he was quite young. First at St. Henry in NKY and after a stint in the military during the Korean War, Bill performed 8 years in the choir at Our Lady of Victory. There have been at least 5 Choir Directors over his tenure at Visitation. Carolyn Witterstaetter remembers Bill’s great dedication to the group...sharing that when he worked in New York Monday through Friday, he would many times fly home for choir practice on Wednesday night then fly back to New York on Thursday! Now that is dedication! And according to Carolyn, Bill never missed a Sunday. Carolyn calls Bill “the most loyal person I know to his family, friends and his parish.” She went on to say, “If there was anything the choir needed, Bill would be there to help.” Bill also played a huge role in the updating of the church organ.

Bill and his wife Carol have now been married for 63 years. They have 3 sons and 2 daughters. As one longtime choir member put it, “Bill has spread such joy with his voice and his unique sense of humor.”

He has truly given…in abundance…of his time, talent and treasure and we have all reaped the reward of his generous giving.

Kudos Corner thanks and honors Bill Anneken for a job well done!
