Prayer Life

Our Lady of the Visitation Parish is actively working in the world to inspire and encourage prayer in our daily lives. What better way to start this communion with our God than to express our gratefulness for all that we have. See what some of our parishioners are grateful for."

Contemplative Prayer

“Silence is God’s first language.” - St. John of the Cross
“Contemplative prayer is prayer that is centered entirely on the presence of God." – Thomas Merton

“When you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” – Jesus (Matthew 6:6-8)

Practice Contemplative Prayer

- Set a timer for 10 minutes…perhaps using your phone. Make sure the alarm is soft!

- Say this line from Psalm 46 to calm your mind:

“Be still and know that I am God.”

“Be still and know that I am.”

“Be still and know.”

“Be still.”

- Close your eyes…and let go of any thoughts. When thoughts return…simply let them go again and settle into the silence.
